Like you, I always had very grave misgivings about the way the two boys were dealt with in the case. I had, and still have, no understanding of how they could commit the acts they did (I can't understand how adults do, either), but it was clear that a cycle of abuse was being initiated by the courts and media. It also disturbed me how many adults would see (or do) the killing of these 10-year-olds with pleasure. Blair's grubby fingerprints all over it just make it worse.

Great piece, thank you. And thank you for choosing to write about these people with compassion.

Thank you for writing such a compassionate piece, full of humanity. It’s encouraged me to examine some of my own feelings towards the case (and most specifically the perpetrators). I slipped very easily into the ‘baying mob’ mentality at the time it was first reported and each time it’s made the headlines since. But we need to be better than that - now more than ever.

Wonderful, deeply human and deeply compassionate work. Those two boys dese4ve compassion, as to the family of their victim. There is something very upsetting about the gleeful, drooling malice of thosecstill banging on about how much violence they would like to perpetrate against those two despite having no connection with the bereaved...
